“San Jose- a necessary stopover that can be made interesting and worthwhile.”
San Jose is Costa Rica’s capital city, it sits in the Central Valley region with the Talamanca Mountains to the south and volcanoes to the north. Although the capital city itself has very little of interest to tourists, there is no major colonial history found in the city.
However, as most international flights arrive into San Jose airport this is a good base for the first couple of nights to allow visitors to visit interesting places like Poas volcano, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, coffee plantations etc.
As you would expect in a city there are several hotel options. For something special one of our favourite hotels is the wonderful Xandari Plantation y Spa Hotel.
