Habarana, Sigiriya, Anuradhapura

Sigiriya Rock Fortress – the spectacular ‘Lion rock’ fortress – is one of Sri Lanka’s World Heritage sites and one of the country’s major attractions. There are fantastic views from the fortress overlooking the luscious green jungle surroundings. This spectacular rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. In a sheltered pocket, approached by a spiral stairway, you will find the famous rock frescoes of buxom maidens.

The site of the palace was situated on the one-hectare summit of the rock and the outer walls built on the very brink of the precipice. The Central Cultural Fund, sponsored by UNESCO, has restored Sigiriya’s 5th century Water Gardens to their former glory. We can advise you on how to make the most of your visit and our guides will ensure you do not miss a thing.
